Against the background of a change of leadership at P&G, Fortune mentions 3 rules for the incoming boss.

Good reminders.

The 3 rules

1. Make it clear who is in charge.

2. Use the interim period wisely

3. Stay confident

In a matrix organisation the first is always a challenge. There are usually multiple people in charge.

I remember going to a management course where the trainer was talking about the fact that matrix organisations lead to slow, and sometimes average, decision making.

It is tough enough being a leader without having to worry about all the peers who are influencing one’s charges.

This is different when one is the CEO. The buck stops there.
