Social Media : To listen

This article got me thinking again about how companies are using Social Media. Or at least planning to do so.

A lot of the advice and discussions with clients tend to be about how they can start something. The most common is ‘let’s do something viral’, followed by we should do something on Facebook and of course now ‘what is this Twitter thing?’.

When I hear this the sense I get is that companies are still primarily using old media techniques in new media.

It is still about broadcasting a brand or company Point of View.

The essence of  ‘social media’ is conversation and as the article linked shows there are some brands, (they tend to be the smaller ones) that are listening in.
