How Singapore Airlines can make more money…or any airline for that matter

This year I have travelled a lot. When you travel like that then one quickly runs through all the familiar in flight entertainment.

And, at least, I experiment with a new movie, or an artist or a short film.

Sometimes it is even enjoyable, but the challenge then is to find that film or song to buy on-ground.

Usually it is not available, or I have forgotten all about it.

What if the airline allowed you to download the song, for a fee, say 1$ per song. Perhaps you can download the movie too for a higher fee.

This ensures that my Moment of Truth is being converted into revenues and the Airline gets remunerated for its in flight entertainment. This could even drive a change in the kind of entertainment shown in flight. And the many airlines that have cut back on this may reinstate it too.

And guess what..happy customers too. Saves them a trip to the store.

Technically speaking I see USB ports in Singapore Airlines flights, so perhaps just some minor resetting of the network and this could be enabled.

Interesting. Your first line about a frequent business flyer running through the options pretty quickly got me thinking: How about a version of Pay Per View on board the flight? Just like they ask you about meal preferences, perhaps they could give business/first class passengers the option of watching a movie/TV show of their preference, for a price. It’s not that hard to work out – a tie-up with Netflix or equivalent could sort it out.

Yeah, over time the airline can charge content creators to feature their music or movies on-air versus now where they have to buy it.
